HOW PRESIDENT GOODLUCK SHOULD PICK HIS VICE

Goodluck should not hurriedly forget how he came into power and what the antics where, when he was still an acting president.

When I listened to the popular radio program on ray power 106.5 FM on the 12th may 2010, there were so many mixed options that where played on air; though some where very good like that of Mr Abumere from Nsukka, he said sense of responsibility, same ideology, proven integrity and so on.

Although, the pools of callers and text messages read favours Yahale Ahmed to become the vice president but here is how president Goodluck should pick the vice president:

1. Merit
Merit is any admirable quality or attribute; it is also the state or quality of being deserving or worthy of, to earn by service.
It is at the quality of being deserving (e.g., Yahale Ahmed being favoured by majority of Nigerians to be picked as the new vice president).
Since merit (Latin meritum) is understood in general terms to be that property of a good work which entitles the doer to recieve a reward (proemium, merces) from him in whose service the work is done.
President Goodluck should pick a vice president with merit as this greatly affect his desire to look into the power problems facing the country which really needs efficient assistance, considering the short space of time he has to be in that office.

2. Credibility plus Proven Integrity
This is the bane of Nigeria socio-political life. It has cut across many facet of the Nigerian system.
Credibility simply means the quality of being believable or trustworthy. Credibility is the audience sense of communicator goodwill. It is someone the dependant can relate with. When such kind of persons speaks, people tend to believe them more e.g., president Goodluck.
A proven history of integrity is what Nigerians can identify with. Somebody that has not had any dealings whatsoever with any of the anti-graft agencies like ICPC, EFCC, and more.
A person that can weather the storm along with the president to achieve very much in a very short time.
A public servant, who once bought, stays bought, so Nigerians need somebody who has not put himself/herself up for purchase in the time past.
Nigerians know that corruption is a serious deterrent to both economic growth and a better quality of life.
So, presidents Goodluck, watch your back when you pick your vice president.
I paired credibility with proven integrity because I feel you cannot have proven integrity without the attribute of being credible. Credibility adds to your shares of integrity, in other words your integrity grows with actions and time but credibility tends to be a constants actions or decision making pattern or ideology of a person.
President Goodluck should as a matter of national consciousness adhere to this point as it may make or mar his political career, developmental antecedent and more especially prolonged sufferings and smiling of Nigerians like Baba Fela puts it.

3. Sense of LoyaltyThis is another concrete consideration for President Goodlluck, considering the synergy, godfatherizm have brought to the Nigerian political environment. With ex-president Obasanjo still very much active in the current political rumblings, it is only logical and a wise counsel to admit that the word loyalty cannot be overlooked.
Loyalty is also called allegiance or truth; it is faithfulness or a devotion to a person or cause.
Loyalty is originality (Plato). It is someone being himself no matter the circumstance.
Unless political interest is betrayed for socio-economic interest, the word “loyalty” remains invalid and the phrase “sense of loyalty” is left in the refuse of phsyciartrism.
4. Same Ideology

An ideology is a set of ideas that discusses one’s goals, expectations and actions.
Basically, ideology can be thought of as the way someone thinks and believes which gives their goals and actions.
So the president must pick someone with same political ideology, I mean someone who could view the way the president want to go about solving problems similar to his views.
The president must similarly look into the political orientation of the person favoured to be the vice president as many could agree that the political orientation of the north is different from that of other regions and vice versa.
Political orientation differs which depends on environmental issues, power, socio-economic agendas and so on. He should know the orientation that characterizes the thinking of a group before decision making.
Therefore, the president must pick someone with similar ideologies with him, so his short term will not be ruined by political propagandist.

5. Leadership Qualities
Since it is widely preached that the president do not have any agenda of contesting for the 2011 general elections, then he should pick a vice that is capable of assuming mantle ship come 2011.
Unless there is political upturn, steps must be taken to secure the future of Nigerians which is already depleted. He must live above the political of “pick pockets” and disappoint those who believe in the disintegration of the entity called Nigeria.

6. He must avoid godfathers influence for any appreciable impact to be made in this short term, he must as a matter of national interest subdue the forces of godfatherism. He must not follow their political antics.
Lastly, president Goodluck must make decision from his heart and not his brain.
We all can use our heart to relate with God, with humanity, but we cannot use our brain for same as many theories tends to argue that there is no existence of God or the reason to help people in distress and that helpless people or poor people are just lazy and do not deserve sympathy nor empathy.
